How to Make Sourdough Banana Bread

Learn how to make this easy spiced Sourdough Banana Bread using sourdough discard!

Ingredients Needed:

Dry Ingredients: •All-purpose flour •Salt •Baking Powder •Baking Soda •Masala Chai Spices: Cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, allspice, black pepper, and cloves

Ingredients Needed:

Wet Ingredients: •Ripe Bananas •Sourdough Starter •Eggs •Light Brown Sugar •Melted Butter •Melted Coconut Oil •Vanilla Extract

1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan

Preheat the oven to 350ºF (177ºC). •Oil a 9x5" bread loaf pan and line with a piece of parchment paper with a couple inches of overhang.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

•In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients including all of the masala chai spices. •Feel free to mix and match spices!

3. Mash Bananas

•In another large bowl, mash four ripe bananas with a fork. •You want to use very ripe bananas here for the best flavor!

4. Whisk Wet Ingredients

•Add all of the wet ingredients to the bowl with the bananas. •Whisk together. It's okay if lumps remain.

5. Mix Wet & Dry Ingredients

•Add the mixed wet ingredients into the dry ingredient bowl. •Whisk together until no flour spots remain. •At this point, you could add in nuts or chocolate chips!

6. Add Batter to the Loaf Pan

•Pour the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

7. Topping (optional)

•For an optional topping, slice one banana lengthwise and lay it on top of the batter. •Sprinkle demerara or raw sugar on top. This will caramelize on top!

8. Bake

•Bake the sourdough banana bread for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Slice & Enjoy!

•Let the bread cool completely. •Enjoy with a nut butter, mascarpone, or alone as a treat!
