How to Make Sourdough Grilled Cheese

This recipe guide will walk you through on how to make the best sourdough grilled cheese sandwich!

 Ingredients:

•2 Slices of sourdough bread •Unsalted Butter •Mayonnaise •Cheddar Cheese •Gruyère Cheese You can opt to mix and match cheeses as well!

1. Preheat Pan and Prep Bread

Preheat a cast-iron skillet over low heat. Spread a teaspoon of mayonnaise on two slices of sourdough bread. This is the secret to help brown the bread evenly!

2. Grate Cheese

Use freshly grated cheese for even melting and the best flavor. I like to use a combination of cheddar and gruyère for a sharp flavor and ooey, gooey-ness.

3. Add Bread and Cheese to Pan

Add a TBS of unsalted butter to the pan and swirl to melt. Place a bread slice mayo-side down in the pan and sprinkle the cheese on top.

4. Cover with Lid and Flip

Place the other bread slice mayo-side up on top and put a lid on top of the bread. Cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms browns, flip, and repeat.

5. Slice and Enjoy!

Use a serrated, sharp knife to slice the bread in half and enjoy the grilled cheese while hot!

How to Get a Grilled Cheese Pull

To get a great grilled cheese pull, you can add a slice of mozzarella cheese at the very end of baking. This will create that photogenic, stringy cheese pull!

Other Grilled Cheese Variations

Use a mix of cheeses or add other toppings to your grilled cheese. Other favorites include brie and fig jam, bacon and tomato, miso butter and garlic, kimchi, etc.
