I started SourdoughBrandon.com, to help home bakers bake naturally leavened, sourdough bread and baked goods with detailed recipes and visual guides.
It’s empowering to start making your own bread from home and I know if I can do it in my kitchen, you can too! And I want home bakers to succeed in making my recipes.
I grew up in the small town of Mt. Airy, North Carolina, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where I was surrounded by Southern hospitality and delicious home cooking. I’ve always baked in some capacity, but when I made my first loaf of sourdough bread, I knew I would be doing it for the rest of my life.
After years of studying piano and music education at New York University, and working in various higher education roles from NYC to Boston, I moved to a rural and peaceful hilltown in Western Massachusetts.
The joy of baking with sourdough is that it is a lifelong learning journey. You don’t need fancy equipment or professional training to make delicious, wholesome baked goods at home.
I hope to share my passion of home baking through my recipes and detailed guides. Maybe you’ll be as inspired as I am to turn on your oven and bake for you and your family.

Why You Should Trust My Sourdough Recipes
Just like you, I’m a home baker myself, so I know how much time and energy goes into some sourdough recipes. I write detailed recipes with as many photos, videos when possible, and tips so home bakers will have the most success!
I also only recommend ingredients or sourdough tools that I’ve tested or used because I know that it’s a financial and time investment to go to the grocery store to pick up a specialty ingredient or make a kitchen purchase.
With that in mind, I try to write my recipes with substitutions for various diets when possible and will tell you what things are worth splurging on (high-quality flour being my #1 recommendation!) or when you can take shortcuts.
I’ve educated and presented about sourdough to thousands of people, plus over one hundred thousand visitors that come to the website each month.
Finally, I thoroughly recipe test, bake, write, and photograph every sourdough recipe in my home kitchen.
Sourdough Brandon is, in fact, just me doing all of these things! I don’t outsource my work because I want everything that’s published here to look, feel, and sound like my own voice speaking to any reader.

Work with Me
I teach in-person and online sourdough workshops, including a popular sourdough starter workshop with a one-hour presentation on how to make, maintain, and store a sourdough starter.
I’ve taught this workshop to hundreds of attendees at over 70 public libraries, universities, senior centers, and other venues across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. You can see a list of my current events here.
